Solar Powered Attic Fan
Ventilation of the home attic is important for two reasons. During the summer, excess heat that builds up in the attic during the day results in high energy costs for cooling. Also, moisture produced within the home may move into the attic if ceiling vapor barriers are not used. If this moisture is not exhausted from the attic it can condense and cause insulation and construction materials to deteriorate. Thus, temperature and moisture control are the major reasons for providing attic ventilation.

Light Bulbs
In the average U.S. home, lighting accounts for about 20% of the electric bill. Americans can save money and protect the environment by installing ENERGY STAR qualified lighting.

CFL Light Bulbs
Light Bulbs (CFLs)
CFLs are available in many shapes sizes to replace incandescent light bulbs in your existing light fixtures. Look for spirals, reflectors, globes, and other specialty bulbs.

The easiest way to start saving energy is to change out the light bulbs in your current fixtures. If you are remodeling, building a new home, or just updating the look of a room, consider installing new ENERGY STAR qualified light fixtures.
  • ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.
  • Save about $30 or more in electricity costs over each bulb’s lifetime.
  • Produce about 75 percent less heat, so they’re safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.
